Page 18 SINGLETON | FROM PAGE 7 • Celebrity sightings at the 621 on Broadway included retired mail carrier, local bon vivant and the “Pride of Linden Park” Ronny “still the best head of hair in Malden” Small. Also spotted was that handsome devil and lifelong Maldonian, Eddie’s little brother and the man who hit the lottery when his lovely wife Trish said, “I do,” Kevin Larson. • I also had the pleasure of running into Peter Cucinotta. It had been far too long since we’d last seen each other, but some friendships have a way of picking up exactly where they left off. Peter has always been one of those people I’ve held near and dear through the years. He hasn’t aged a day since those times we all hung around the old bar at Anthony’s back in the late 1970s well into the 1980s. What a crowd that was. What good times we had with the best hosts in the world, the Spadafora family: Papa Tony, Alice and the brothers Albert (and wife Franny), Neal, and Tony (and wife Mary). Seeing Peter again brought all those wonderful memories rushing back. At times all it takes is a familiar face to transport you 50 years into the past, and for a few (brief) moments, it felt like we were all back at The Old Bar living the best years of our lives. • Once again, Peter, my sincerest condolences on the passing of your beautiful wife Lois. • Happy 65 spins around the earth go out to Malden boy (via Amerige Park) and Extreme front man Gary Cherone. Happy birthday, Gary! • True fact...in the early 1980s — before he became “famous” — after band practice — Gary loved nothing more in life than to pass time at Anthony’s on Canal Street in the old bar spending endless hours yukking it up with Vinnie, Moe and 10-yearold Craig (Spadafora) all the while mastering Kong Gorilla, Centipede and Galaga! As Peter Falk’s iconic TV character Columbo would say, “Just one more thing, sir” — in case you weren’t one of the 37,000 lucky souls in the sold-out crowd at Fenway on August 2 (David Boyle was!), you missed Zac Brown Band’s Fenway coronation — and one heck of a Malden moment. Being the huge ZB fan that he is, Malden’s own Gary Cherone joined the band for an enthusiastically received encore rendition of “More Than Words.” Think about that journey for a moment: from performing in front of a handful of people at the Pegasus Club in Ipswich in July of 1979 (myself and siblings Frank, David and Barbara sitting front and center) to standing on the Fenway stage in 2026 in front of 37,000 crazed ZB fans! Dude… you done good. From the Pegasus to Fenway; from a room full of Levines, Herreras and Gearys to 37,000. What a ride! Malden is very, very proud of you, Gary. Robyn Kennedy (D-Worcester), Senate sponsor of the bill. “The Prioritizing Patient Access to Care Act ensures Massachusetts patients do not have to leave the commonwealth to get the care they need, and empowers physicians to support their patients throughout their pregnancies. Thank you to all the advocates who have brought this bill to fruition, especially the women who have shared their experiences.” "Throughout relentless attacks on reproductive rights, Massachusetts has prioritized the fundamental rights and health care of its residents," said Rep. Christine Barber (D-Somerville), House sponsor of the bill. "This law ensures access to care by empowering physicians to use their professional judgment to make decisions in the best interest of their patients. Pregnancy is complex, and I am grateful the House advanced this bill to eliminate barriers and guarantee medical expertise as the standard of care. It comes down to a simple, but powerful conviction: decisions about abortion care must remain between a patient and their provider. No one else. Today, we show our commitment to protecting the rights of our residents of the commonwealth." Opponents said the legislation allows elective abortions up to birth based solely on a physician’s professional judgment. They said it eliminates the current requirement that complex lateterm abortions be performed in a hospital setting, thus allowing abortions on healthy mothers and healthy infants at a stage when unborn children can feel pain and may be able to survive outside the womb. Myrna Maloney Flynn, president of Massachusetts Citizens for Life said, “Legalizing elective abortion up to birth on healthy moms and healthy, pain-capable infants is not about a doctor-patient relationship but rather abortionists normalizing infant death and pressuring vulnerable women to permit their unborn children to die in heinous acts of violence, which are - LEGAL NOTICE - City of Malden Massachusetts INSPECTIONAL SERVICES 215 Pleasant Street, 3rd Floor Malden, Massachusetts 02148 (781) 397-7000 ext. 2030 MALDEN PLANNING BOARD PUBLIC HEARING The Malden Planning Board will hold a public hearing in the Herbert L. The signing of this law does not erase that work. Instead, it gives us a new opportunity to build on it. We can use this national exposure to educate new audiences about abortion later in pregnancy and about the options available to women instead of abortion. We can earn hearts and minds with the truth. Abortion is a choice, and we can make that choice unthinkable. That's our main effort now.” "It should shock the conscience that tens of thousands of unborn Americans are barbarically dismembered limb by limb and torn apart every single year,” said Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of the pro-life group Susan B.
