The pandemic is taking a toll on our city, our families, and our schools. As our neighbors lost their jobs, searched for child care, and juggled the challenges of remote learning, I asked: how can I help? I brought laptops to students in need. I bought groceries for families in quarantine, unable to leave their homes. I delivered meals to Maldonians with GMAAC and Malden Neighbors Helping Neighbors. I did this because I believe in our community. In that spirit, I am running for School Committee. I am a longtime Maldonian and a father. My lifetime love of learning came from my mom, a nurse and educator for special-needs students. I’ve walked every street of mittee. We need to recruit and retain good teachers and staff. We need to make sure our schools are safe for everyone to learn. We need to honor our city’s diversity and make sure that families feel included in the discussions and decisions. We should foster an environment that encourages our kids to be true to themselves and respectful to others. He added, “The high-quality early educaJason Lewis State Senator tion programs run by ABCD are critical to the early development and well-being of many vulnerable children and low-income families in our communities.” “We know the social and economic challenges Head Start families face, but more importantly, we know their children’s potential,” said ABCD President/ CEO John Drew. “The pandemic severely impacted these folks, and we are grateful to the EEC, Senator Lewis, and all those who understand the value of the comprehensive education, health, and family support services that Head Start and Early Head Start provide and secured this critical funding.” Head Start programs promote the school readiness of infants, toddlers and preschool-aged children from low-income families. These programs support children’s growth in a positive learning environment through a variety of services, and the programs are available at no cost to children ages newborn to five from low-income families.
