There did not seem to be much else left intact on Wednesday after a four-alarm fire ripped through a multi-family residence on Ferry Street in the late afternoon hours. Malden firefighters battled the blaze, which initially sent flames shooting out the top of the roof plus clouds of billowing smoke, beginning about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday. Special to The Advocate participate in City’s Memorial Day Observance H olocaust survivor Janet Singer Applefield recently visited Malden High School for a presentation to students. Janet has met with more than 4,000 students over the years — speaking about her experiences and her life. As it was also the occasion of her 90th birthday, Mayor Gary Christenson presented her with a citation. Janet’s life story is nothing less than awe inspiring.
