Page 2 THE MALDEN ADVOCATE–Friday, May 13, 2022 City Hall celebrates Mental Health Awareness Month Special to The Advocate A s May is Mental Health Awareness Month, City of Malden employees Tamerlie Roc of the Board of Health and Jeri Scibelli and Crystal Morano of Human Resources set out to find ways to make employees feel appreciated and improve their mental health in the workplace. Mental Health Awareness Month serves to provide a reminder that mental health is essential and those living with mental health issues are deserving of care, understanding, compassion and pathways to recovery and healing. Tamerlie, Jeri and Crystal initiated several activities, including “Mindful Mondays” where employees follow stress relief videos at their desk, “Together Tuesdays” where employees are encouraged to have lunch together, “Wellness Wednesdays” where employees are encouraged to walk to Macdonald Stadium with their colleagues, “Thoughtful Thursdays” where employees are encouraged to take a few minutes out of their day to think about how they feel at the end of the work week and “Don’t Forget Yourself Friday” – to celebrate yourself on another great week. Harvard Pilgrim has offered free virtual fitness classes and mindfulness webinars and will be hosting several virtual webinars about “Mindfulness Practices for Burnout Relief” specifically for City of Malden employees. The City will also be posting information about Mental Health Awareness on its Human Resources page. Mystic Valley Elder Services issues RFP for older adult programs M ystic Valley Elder Services (MVES) has issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) to fund innovative programs that promote the health, well-being, and independence of older adults and to complement or supplement the support activities of primary caregivers. Areas of focus include: family caregiver issues and services; special populations such as elders with special needs, isolated, marginalized, LGBT elders and those who are disadvantaged by racial, cultural and/or linguistic barriers; health promotion programs that focus on evidence-based programs for older adults; transportation; housing insecurity; social insecurity/isolation; health and wellness, including physical and behavioral health; and economic insecurity. Funding is available by MVES through the Older American Act and is subject to availability of federal funding. The project begins on October 1 and ends on September 30, 2023. MVES is requesting Letters of Intent from organizations wishing to apply for funding to support individuals ages 60 and older in MVES’ service area, which includes Chelsea, Everett, Malden, Medford, Melrose, North Reading, Reading, Revere, Stoneham, Wakefield and Winthrop.
