Seeley pitches and hits Malden Softball to 16-2 win over Somerville Tornado senior captain Hayley Seeley pitched and batted Malden Varsity Softball to a first win of the season, a 16-2 victory on the road over Somerville at Trum Field on April 15. Seeley hurled a 1-hitter and also clubbed a home run to spark the offense in a big day for Malden. The victory rose Head Coach Rebecca Krigman’s team to 1-4 overall for the season heading into today’s non-league matchup on the road at Waltham High, which had a 10:00 a.m. start. Two other scheduled games this school vacation break were cancelled and due to be rescheduled to wet grounds: Friday, April 17 home game versus non-league Cambridge Rindge and Latin and Monday’s road trip to Lynn English. Malden Softball stays busy next week with home games versus Revere (Monday, April 27) and Everett (Wednesday, April 28) and the makeup game at Lynn English on Thursday, April 30. All three games are 4:00 p.m. starts. Boys Volleyball looks to get back on track Malden High Boys Volleyball was looking to get back on track after a 3-1 home loss on April 17 to non-leaguer Arlington that put the season mark to 5-3 overall. Malden had an upand-down week overall, getting swept on the road, 3-0, at Revere on April 13, then returning to do the same to Medford, 3-0, ending an arduous, seven-game road streak. Malden is now at home for two full weeks, beginning with Wednesday’s hosting of Everett (after Advocate press time). Next week, Malden stays in the Greater Boston League with home games against Somerville on Monday, April 27 and Chelsea on Wednesday, April 29. Both are 5:15 p.m. starts. Tornado Boys Tennis starts out perfect (3-0) First-year Head Coach John Frigo’s Varsity Boys Tennis Team is off to a perfect start — literally! Not only is Malden unbeaten at 3-0, but the Tornados have won every set of every match to date: 5-0 over Lynn English on April 13, 5-0 over Everett on the road on April 15 and another 5-0 sweep on the road at Revere on Tuesday, April 21 this week. Malden was scheduled to play on the road at Lynn Classical Wednesday this week (after Advocate press time), then plays three matches next week: hosting Medford at Amerige Park, Malden, on Monday, April 27; at Lynn English Wednesday, April 29; and then hosting Everett on Friday, May 1.
