In recognition of Earth Day, which is today, April 22, Ward 8 City Councillor Jadeane Sica and Council President Craig Spadafora are joining with Malden Mayor Gary Christenson to host a citywide clothing drive. "The aim of this clothing drive has two goals," Councillor Sica said, "To honor Earth Day, we can recycle clothing and other textiles that Malden residents no longer need and keep these items out of landfills. Councillor Sica noted that in addition to clothing items, ALL forms of textiles will be accepted, including bedding, linens, shoes, draperies, towels and more. All of the textiles are recycled and a private company, Helpsy, which collects them and returns a dividend to the donor. A year-round program is already in place at a number of school building locations citywide. The event will be held tomorrow, Saturday, April 23 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.at the Linden School parking lot, 29 Westcott Rep. Donato Announces Re-Election Campaign Kick-Off The Friends of State Representative Paul J. Donato (D-Malden and Medford) will be hosting a Cocktail Reception and Buffet Dinner fundraiser to celebrate the kick-off of Donato’s re-election campaign. The event will be held on Wednesday, May 4 from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Anthony’s, 105 Canal St. in Malden. St.Proceeds that come from the textiles collected go directly to the Malden Public Schools. Those who would like to donate may drive up and drop off and a member of the city's textile recycling vendor Helpsy will be on hand to take donations.
