Christenson administered the oath of office to city councillors and members of the school committee, most of whom were incumbents elected to new twoyear terms. He thanked outgoing Ward 3 Councillor John Matheson for his years of service and welcomed Amanda Linehan, the new rep for Ward 3 on the City Council. New School Committee Members Adam Weldai from Ward 5, Joseph Gray from Ward 6 and Michelle Luong from Ward 7 were also warmly welcomed. The Inaugural Committee, headed up by Kathleen Manning Hall, planned an event that included performances that showcased the city’s diversity and young talent. The ceremony began with Malden resident Jennifer Dhangee singing the National Anthem and ended with “God Bless America” sung by Malden High junior Juliette Pierre. The Wah Lum Kung Fu & Tai Chi Academy performed the traditional Chinese Lion Dance accompanied by drums and gongs. The lion, which symbolizes wisdom and power in Chinese culture, danced to bring prosperity and good fortune to the city and its leaders in the upcoming year. The Namaste Malden Troupe added some Indian culture to the ceremony with their dance performed in elaborate costumes. The Malden High band surprised the audience with a big band version of “Bohemian sistent social media presence on multiple platforms including Facebook, YouTube, Instagram and Twitter, helping to increase the visibility and desirability of every property. Combined with the goal of making transactions as seamless as possible for each client, this marketing strategy will help ensure sellers achieve top dollar for their homes. The Malden High Step Team made their debut as official city performers with a stepping arrangement that blended footsteps, claps and other sounds and movements into a joyful rhythmic dance.
