Both teams came in with identical records, and a monster crowd packed the Pearl Street, Malden venue. Both teams came in with identical 2-1 overall records and off of close victories the previous weeks. Everett’s 22-19 road victory over Catholic Conference power BC High turned a lot of heads, especially on the heels of a banner performance by freshman Tide quarterback Michael Walsh, who tossed a pair of long-bomb TDs. Malden came in led by junior running back Jayden McGuffie, who has ruled the roost for the past two seasons on the stat list and on most nights can name his rushing yards and TD totals. When it was over, it turned out to be a Crimson-colored night, despite some hard-nosed play from both Malden and Everett — in the trenches and in the air. An early Everett offensive push set the tone in this one, and the Crimson Tide scored in every quarter on its way to a 35-6 victory. With the victory, Everett extended its latest series winning streak to six games — not having lost to Malden since 2015 — and upped its overall historical, all-time series lead to 72-58-6. The 133-year-old series began in 1893. Everett quarterback Walsh threw two more touchdown passes — giving him 7 TD passes on the season, among the Division 1 leaders — and also scored on an 11-yard run himself, closing out the Tide scoring in the Everett Malden High 7 0 Tide freshman quarterback Michael Walsh (6) lines up a pass against Malden. fourth quarter. That was one of the few highlights on the night for Malden, which evened off its record at 2-2 with the loss, while Everett improved to 3-1. While Walsh, who now had thrown for over 500 yards in just four games this season, was able to shine in most of the game, it was a quiet night overall for Maiden’s top offense threat, junior record-setter running back Jayden McGuffie, who finished with just 50 yards rushing on 15 carries.
