Medford and Somerville should be the teams to beat this fall. “They both have great programs and depth,” Persuitte said, “but the GBL as a whole is always a very tough league. However, I truly feel like we will be making some noise, because this squad is very eager to really show what (it) can do.” The Everett girls will also be facing a host of new nonleague teams this year like East Boston (Sept. 14, 4 p.m. at East Boston’s City Yards) and O’Bryant (Sept. 28, 4:15 p.m., at 7-Acres). But in the meantime, they opened up the regular season on Thursday, Sept. 10, against host Lowell after press deadline. They will then be at aforementioned East Boston on Monday, followed by a Tuesday afternoon game against the Red Devils at Chelsea Stadium, starting at 4:15 p.m., before facing Malden in the home opener under the lights at Everett Veterans Memorial Stadium on Thursday, Sept. 17, at 7 p.m. They will close out next week against host Lawrence on Saturday, Sept. 19, at 10 a.m. As a warmup to the season, Senior Jeremiah Joseph on the carry for the Crimson Tide. Captain Armani Negron makes a nifty tackle on the Peabody ball carrier. the Tide participated in the Medford Jamboree on Aug. 30, where they dropped a couple of close decisions to Waltham (2-0) and Bedford (1-0). “We had a very good showing, (considering) it was the first time this year that the girls played together as a team (in a competitive environment),” said Persuitte. “We were a little rusty at first, but once we got going, we held our own. My veterans really stepped up and showed the newbies what high school sports are all about. Notably, Rosa Romero played very well at midfield, along with freshman Brianna Santos. All three of my captains took charge, as well. New goalie Julianna Rivera, who also plays on the basketball team, is vying for the starting job with veteran Kaylyn Rivera. They will be giving each other healthy competition for that top spot.” On Sept. 3, Everett scrimmaged Winthrop, only to lose, 5-1. “The score did not reflect the true nature of this scrimmage,” said Persuitte. “We started out flat in the first half, but eventually began playing our game in the second half.” Veteran Connie Paz Hernandez, who plays on the right side, scored the lone Everett goal. “This scrimmage was an eyeopener for us, but we have already adjusted and improved on what went wrong,” said Persuitte. “This team is very eager to learn from their mistakes in order to improve (quickly) on every aspect of their games.”
