DiDomenico garners more than $7M for Everett Public Schools By Christopher Roberson O n the eve of Everett’s first day of school, State Senator Sal DiDomenico announced that he had secured $7.3 million for the district in the state’s fiscal year 2020 budget. During the August 26 School Committee meeting, he said Everett received $6 million more this year in Chapter 70 funding. He also dispelled the notion State Senator Sal DiDomenico recently told Everett school officials that he was able to secure $7.3 million for the 2019-2020 school year. (Advocate Photo by Christopher Roberson) that the state has reduced education funding allocations. “Funding for Chapter 70 has never been cut for as long as I’ve been a senator,” said DiDomenico, adding that Everett’s new Chapter 70 figure represents the largest increase the district has seen in 50 years. In addition, $75,000 will be used for music programming, Vol. 28, No. 35 $50,000 will be used for technology improvements and $75,000 will be used to hire an opioid treatment counselor. DiDomenico said another $100,000 will be invested to continue funding for Engineering is Elementary, the district’s latest initiative under the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics curriculum. He said the remaining $1 million will be used to allow MassHealth families to apply for SNAP benefits. DiDomenico was also pleased with the progress that has been made with the Breakfast After the Bell program. “Everett has been ahead of the curve on that,” he said, adding that he is cosponsoring a bill that would make Breakfast After the Bell a law.
