THE EVERETT ADVOCATE – FRiDAy, July 17, 2026 Page 3 Several Malden juveniles face felony charges after fi ghts disrupt Everett Independence Day celebration Advocate Staff Report F our Malden juveniles are among five youths facing criminal charges following a series of fi ghts that broke out during Everett’s Independence Day celebration at Glendale Park, city offi cials announced. According to a joint statement released by Mayor Robert J. Van Campen and Police Chief Paul Strong, the disturbances began at approximately 8:40 p.m. on July 4, when several altercations involving groups of juveniles erupted in and around the park, causing distress among attendees. Offi cers assigned to the event responded immediately, intervened and brought the situation under control. The city said approximately 2,700 people attended the annual celebration. The fi ve juveniles charged in connection with the incident include four Malden residents believed to be 17 years old and one juvenile who is not an Everett resident. City offi cials said only one of the fi ve juveniles arrested in connection with the celebration is an Everett resident. The Malden juveniles have been issued summonses to appear in Malden District Court for an August dangerousness hearing. It was unclear whether they were arrested at the scene before being released to their parents. The juveniles are expected to face charges including assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (shod foot), assault and battery causing bodily injury, assault and battery, and disturbing the peace. Assault and battery with a dangerous weapon is a felony under Massachusetts law. Police said the investigation began immediately after the incident. By the following Monday evening, detectives, school resource offi cers and members of the department’s Community Services Unit, working with neighboring law enforcement agencies, had identifi ed those believed to be involved. Offi - cials said additional charges could be sought following consultation with the Middlesex District Attorney’s Offi ce. The Everett Police Department assigned 35 offi cers to the event as part of an enhanced security plan developed based on prior years’ experience. After the fi ghts began, the department requested mutual aid, bringing at least 25 additional offi cers from Revere, Chelsea, Somerville, Medford and the Massachusetts State Police to assist.
