Victoria Chaparro of Everett was one of the graduates recognized at the event. The celebration served as an opportunity to honor the unique accomplishment of overcoming barriers facing fi rst-generation students and brought together the Hofstra community to congratulate the graduates on their achievements. There were powerful student stories, and the room was fi lled with emotion as the graduates received their cord while their names were read. M ayor Carlo DeMaria is pleased to announce that the City of Everett’s Council on Aging (COA) has partnered with Cambridge Health Alliance (CHA) to offer programming that is inclusive to those who speak Portuguese every Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Connolly Center (90 Chelsea St.). The program will feature various activities for adults over the age of 60: exercise classes, music, games and much more. Participants are not required to speak Portuguese to join in the fun.
