Matthew McSwain was excited to don his full regalia once again during the city’s Memorial Day service at Glenwood Cemetery. “Today, we remember,” he said during his keynote address on May 27. “When I put my uniform back on, it brought back a flood of memories.” McSwain said he spent much of his 22-year career in Combat Search and Rescue, deploying pararescue jumpers from UH/1N and HH60G helicopters, in a unit known as the “Jolly Green Giants.” “When someone called us, that meant someone wasn’t having a good day,” he said. McSwain also said he attended a number of Ramp Ceremonies in Iraq and Afghanistan. The ceremony is held to honor a fallen comrade before the soldier's body is flown home.
