Page 6 THE EVERETT ADVOCATE – Friday, January 11, 2019 Everett boys’ basketball team beats two more conference foes to remain undefeated By Joe McConnell T he Everett High School boys’ basketball team is currently undefeated in the Northeastern Conference with a 3-0 record. They are 5-1 overall. Their lone loss was against Brookline, which is currently the No. 1 team in the state. Coach Stanley Chamblain’s team recently defeated Peabody and Revere to remain undefeated in the conference. “Against Peabody, I thought the team played a hard-fought game, once again,” said Chamblain. “I thought our youth and inexperience showed at times throughout the game, but that’s expected with a young team, especially in the backcourt. However, despite those mistakes, the defense we played was the difference maker, and it made up for mistakes we made in this game to earn us the victory against a good Peabody team.” Sophomore Omar Quilter (12 Senior Devin Brito soars over the Revere defenders. In the Revere game, which Everett won 47-30, Chamblain thought, his squad did a good job of attacking the Revere zone and full-court pressure. But he added that many of their shots simply weren’t falling through the hoop, but they still remained poised while continuing to attack on the offensive end. Chamblain then offered his assessment of the team to date. “This season has been very different in comparison to recent years,” he said. “This team is much different MEET THE EHS CRIMSON TIDE BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM than last year’s team from just experience alone. Aside from Nate Mehu, Erick Thompson and Amir Dottin, it’s an entirely different roster from the team that advanced to the Garden last year. “Despite the change, the season has been positive up to this point. We have a lot of work to do to get to where we ultimately want to be, but there are a lot of positives so far. “I’m most impressed with the effort, energy and confidence that the freshmen and sophomores are playing with. Freshmen John Monexant, Ralph Enayo and Roby Dormevil, and sophomores Paulo Silva Rodrigues, Omar Quilter and Kevin Ariste have all contributed so much so far this season. They’ve adapted well to the speed and physicality on the varsity level, which, I believe, along with their confidence will continue to improve as the season goes on.” But as always, there’s still room for improvement. “There is absolutely much more room for improvement, which I quite honestly believe is needed in all areas,” added Chamblain. “As I mentioned before, our inShown from left to right are (top row) Head Coach Stanley Chamblain, Asst. We have a lot of young, first-year varsity players on this team, so it’s inevitable that mistakes are bound to happen. I believe our execution on offense needs to and will get better, and … as well as they have played on defense, I think they can improve in that area, as well.
