Historic Frasch Park Golf Course includes an 18 hole golf course, practice putting green, and driving range. Green fees range from $11 to $17 with senior rates available daily. Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit and Run (PHR) Participants compete in either the Baseball Division or Softball Division and can advance through four levels of competition including Locals, Sectionals, Team Championships and the National Finals during MLB All-Star Week. This official skills competition is a collaborative effort with the Kiwanis Club of Sulphur. Participants compete in pitching, hitting off a tee, and base running for a chance to advance. SPAR now partnering with NAYS for coaches training! “The National Alliance for Youth Sports has partnered with over 3,000 organizations to aide and improve youth sports programs. Through SPAR, coaches will now have FREE access to online sport-specific training including education on rules, how to run a practice, and motivational techniques. Our mission is preserving and enriching the culture of Southwest Louisiana. To accomplish this goal, a permanent exhibit on the history of the sulfur industry and how it has played a role in developing the city of Sulphur, Louisiana within the Brimstone Museum. The Henning Cultural Center houses traveling exhibits and local artists throughout the year. 900 S. SPAR Game Time on the Move! SPAR Staff create temporary play spaces by bringing games, athletic equipment, art supplies and more to parks for open play. This is a traveling recreation program designed to combat obesity and provide recreational activities at each of our parks. Chess Camp Experience chess lessons and play in a fun filled environment. Each day consists of chess instruction on basic rules, fundamentals, etiquette, and competitive play. American Red Cross Lifeguard Training The purpose of this certification course is to provide participants with the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize, and respond to aquatic emergencies. CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid are included in the course. Lifeguard Training Continued: Pre-course Water Skill test: Registrants must pass pre-course water test – (a) 300 yard continuous swim using the front crawl and/or breaststroke demonstrating breath control & rhythmic breaths (b) tread water for two minutes using only legs (c) complete the following under 1 minute, 40 seconds – 20 yard approach, surface dive to 10 feet, retrieve a 10 pound brick from the bottom, return 20 yards on the back holding the brick with both hands at surface of water, and exit pool without use of ladder. Pre-course water test for Shallow Water LG course: Registrants must pass pre-course water test – (a) 100 yard continuous swim using the front crawl and/or breaststroke (b) tread water for two minutes using only legs (c) complete the following under 50seconds –20 yard approach, surface dive to 5 feet, retrieve a 10 pound brick from the bottom, return 20 yards holding the brick with both hands at surface of water, and exit pool without use of ladder. Full refund less $25 fee for cancellation prior to registration deadline. Refund not available after deadline. Failure of precourse water test qualifies for full refund. Swim Lessons Eight 35-minute lessons = a Session. Age and skill appropriate safety instruction will be incorporated into every session. Level 1; 6 years and older: Students begin to move independently in the water. Basic skills are taught including floating, gliding, treading water, and bobbing. Level 2; 6 years and older: Must be able to swim 15 feet. Builds on skills taught in Level 1. Front crawl and backstroke are introduced at this level. Level 3; 6 years and older: Level 2 skills are developed and refined. This class introduces the dolphin kick, elementary backstroke, side stroke, and head first entries. Level 4; 6 years and older: Stroke refinement: freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, elementary backstroke, and side stroke. Diving, open turns, surface dives and underwater swimming are introduced. Adult; 17 years and older: Basic swimming safety and development & refining of all swim strokes.
