TAKE YOUR CONGRESSMAN TO WORK DAY The pictures shown on the right are of Congressman Bost getting some hands on experience with the guidance of David Padgett, HBA President & Padgett Building & Remodeling. The day consisted of hanging cabinets, unloading materials and some demo work along with a lunch meeting with the office staff to talk about the industry and issues. Topics included OSHA, EPA Silica Ruling, Labor Laws, Affordable Health Care and Canadian Lumber tariffs. State Senator Paul Schimpf (pictured below) was the keynote speaker at the Southwest Illinois Council of Mayors meeting this month held at Anbrier Golf Course. After the meeting Senator Schimpf took a few minutes to talk with Past President Mark Vogt and HBA President David Padgett about industry issues. The HBA is looking forward to more time with Senator Schimpf to continue support of his efforts in our State. TAX REFORM ROUNDTABLE WITH CONGRESSMAN BOST HBA Past President, Mark Vogt and Executive Officer, Tracy Butler were invited to be part of a panel of business owners, manufacturers and job creators to share input, concerns and feedback for implementing a simpler, fairer tax code on all sides. Topics covered were small business tax rate, complexity, lack of customer service, simplification of individual and corporate tax rates, interest deductibility and value added tax. HBA members will be informed with the outcome from this meeting when Congress is back in session working on this priority topic. 13
