Through this award, we encourage women’s careers in the building industry, while enhancing the educational experience. Female Senior High School students or those enrolled in community college under the age of 20 interested in the home building industry and want to further their involvement and knowledge can be awarded the scholarship. Students are judged on the following criteria: academics, involvement within the building industry, extracurricular activities, community involvement, and achievements. Sydney Kolnsberg After high school, Sydney’s goal is to earn a degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Kentucky. While majoring in civil engineering, she also would like to minor in Spanish along with pursuing a Master in Business Administration. Sydney’s many impressive accomplishments in high school include: High Honor Roll, Outstanding Spanish Student (Top 1% in a school of 2700 students), Edwardsville Rotary Club Student of the Month January 2018 (Science), and Silver Medallion Winner. She also received first place in a bridge design contest in 2017 and the Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering 2nd Place Physics in 2018. Elise Maue After high school in Freeburg, Elise will attend Kansas State and study Architecture with plans to earn her Master’s degree in five years. Elise has graduated in the top 15% of her class, was on honor roll all 4 years of high school along with being Treasurer of the National Honor Society, the Vice President of the Art and Design Club, and editor of the year book. Elise has already taken college courses to focus on her intended Architecture path, which runs in her family. Melissa Crosby After graduating Chester High School, Melissa will work at the Asbury Building Center and attend Southwestern Illinois College in Red Bud. Melissa has received 20+ achievements and awards during her high school experience. Some of the highlights were her three awards from the VFW, which included essay and art contests, her Southwestern Illinois College 1st place poetry award, the United States Presidential Recognition for Youth Volunteerism, and the Southern Illinois Regional Leadership Scholarship. 14
