In the past 15 years, Allen has served in several different capacities in local, state and federal government, as well as work in advocacy-related non-profits. Allen was an Alderman for eight years and had three years as Mayor Pro-Term before being elected as Mayor of Troy, IL, in April 2013. Troy has had many infrastructure improvements around town include reopening of South Main Street which was a $2 million project and used less than 1% of city funding. It has taken 9 years to complete 10 grants totaling $43,615. New construction in 2015 included $9.5 million in new residential construction (41 permits) and $8.2 million in commercial construction. A new senior community “Serenade” featuring homes made of insulated concrete forms will be located alongside Tri Township Park. Up to 60, two-family houses, divided by a common wall, will be built. Each half, estimated at 1,600-1,800 square feet, will be priced at $250,000. Everything is designed to be low maintenance and energy efficient.
