The enjoyment of golf and the benefits of club membership depend on the extent to which members show respect for the game and the club, courtesy to their fellows and consideration for their golf course. The Rules of Golf provide advice on etiquette when playing golf. The rules of conduct which influence members in their relations with each other determine the code of etiquette within a golf club. In the interests of etiquette proper standards of conduct and dress on the course and in the clubhouse should be observed always.  Golf is a traditional game based on values, etiquette and courtesy.  Private clubs expect higher standards of dress than do public courses.  Northern Golf Club’s Dress Code seeks to strike a balance between traditional and progressive views.  Northern Golf Club expects Members and Guests to take pride in their appearance on the course and in the Clubhouse. Standard of dress and general appearance will, at all times, determine the privilege of all Members and visitors to use the facilities of the Club. NGC By Law No. 7 states: All members shall comply with the current version of the dress code that specifies the club’s requirements for all persons while playing, practicing or socializing within the premises. The code will be consistent for male and female members but there may be minor concessions to accommodate acceptable fashion trends for either sex. Each year in December, the code will be reviewed in time to include any variations in the new syllabus and on the club’s website. Copies of the code will also be available at the office. Pictorial examples will be used to illustrate the code. Members need to keep abreast of the Club’s view on any fashion changes that may occur from time to time by reference to the current dress code as contained on the Website or from the Office or Proshop, as convenient. Specific changes will be communicated to Members in this manner, but the Board does require compliance to the Dress Code and expects that Members will heed any requests from Staff or Board Members to accept their responsibility in this regard, for the benefit of all concerned. 12

A player shall have an Australian Handicap only and this shall be allotted by his nominated Home Club. It is the responsibility of the player to report to his Home Club all scores returned by him at other clubs. All scores for handicap will be calculated by the U.S.G.A.’s “Rolling Sample” method. The USGA handicap formula is based on averaging the BEST handicap differentials in a player’s handicap record. If a player’s handicap record contains 20 scores, the best 8 handicap differentials are used to calculate the player’s exact handicap. The differential will be based on the Australian Men’s Course Rating of the day. All member’s handicaps will be reviewed every day a scorecard is submitted with older scores being replaced by more recent scores. Hence, the handicap record is considered to be a “rolling sample” of the player’s scores. The multiplier has been changed to 0.93. Introduction of a “Cap” which will prevent a player’s handicap from increasing any more than 5 strokes beyond their best exact handicap from the previous 12 month rolling period. Golf Link will cap the score that goes into a player’s handicap record at no more than 40 strokes over the course rating. (Stroke and Par scores are converted into Stableford for this purpose). Slope ratings and scratch ratings will now apply to all competition rounds. To obtain an Australian handicap, a player must lodge 3 or more social or competition score cards. The system is based on every player making the best score on every hole he plays and returns every eligible card for handicapping. The Australian Handicapping System allows the Committee to adjust a player’s handicap where necessary to ensure the evenness of the competition or to give consideration to a player returning after ill health.
