Have a blast in the past this summer at CSPM! The Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum is pleased to announce “Summer of Fun!” with four unique program offerings for all ages! Families are invited to explore the museum and engage with local history through hands-on activities, scavenger hunts, crafts, story time, and more! Each Tuesday through Saturday, 10:30am-3:30pm (June 6-July 28) stop by the museum to interact with up to six Sensing History stations led by Junior Docents. 30 middle and high school students are trained to lead our summer activities ranging from decorating American Indian parfleche bags in the Cultural Crossroads exhibit, to helping you share your regional story. Visiting day care and summer camp groups are asked to make a reservation at least two-weeks in advance of your visit. On Fridays, from 2:00pm-4:00pm, ignite your curiosity at Weekend WarmUp! Families are invited to drop in for a 30 minute craft, experiment, or fun activity highlighting local history. Leave with history adventure ideas for the weekend! On Friday, July 14 we will explore the history of the Buffalo Soldiers – African American soldiers from 9th and 10th Cavalry and the 24th and 25th Infantry who served from the Civil War through the 1950s. Join the Buffalo Soldiers Community Memorial Committee for a scavenger hunt throughout the building to explore the extraordinary legacy of these remarkable soldiers. Once you have completed the search, turn in your hunt for a ticket to take a free carriage ride around the outside of the museum! Leave with ideas to explore more of the history of the Buffalo Soldiers in the West. The summer Children’s History Hour series features topics, amoung others the Soap Box Derby and the history of homesteading. On June 17 and 21, and July 19 from 10:30-11:30am, we will read a children’s story, go on a family-friendly tour and create a special craft. Finally, we are excited to celebrate our state’s birthday at the Colorado Grown Family Fun Day on Saturday, July 29 from 10am-2pm! Join the museum for a day of demonstrations, crafts, and family-friendly activities! Discover local history and identity through food, art, gardening and more. We hope you’ll join us for the museum’s exciting and FREE summer programming options. To learn more and register visit: www.CSPM.org Partner Spotlight PG. 2
