Life Lessons Sameen Naqvi, AZCOM 2020 Poem & Painting My mother taught me to fight for what you want. “Do it now,” because too many people get caught up in this illusion called Time. My father showed me the importance of sharing warmth and laughter. That others' happiness is connected to your own, and so together we go farther. My brother is the first person I bullied and the first person I would protect. Perhaps love and hate stem from the same twisted branch in the end. My grandma used to tell me I was brave. To stand up for everything I believed in, and for everyone who could not do the same. My friends taught me that life is not meant to be traveled alone. Look out for each other, and when one falls remember the hands that helped you dig out from your hole. From everyone else, I’ve understood that most minds stay confined to individual worlds. Realities differ beyond one’s control, and the seemingly sane have made peace with their own. 40 THRIVE 2018
