THE REVERE ADVOCATE - Friday, September 6, 2019 Page 17 Three-run rally nets first Yawkey title for Rockies O By Greg Phipps n the verge of seeing the 2019 Yawkey League championship series go to a seventh game for the third season in a row, the Revere Rockies shocked the Charlestown Townies when Alex Wong drilled a one-out, two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift Revere to a dramatic 5-4 game-six win and a 4-2 championship series victory last Thursday night at Maplewood Park in Malden. A Zach Aresty double had already brought in a run as Revere trailed the Townies 4-2 entering the frame. It was Revere’s first-ever championship and second straight appearance in the league finals. In 2018, the Rockies were edged in seven games by the Brighton Braves, who had lost to Somerville in seven the year before. Kevin Sinatra hurled a complete-game 4-2 victory in game four last Tuesday to bring the Rockies to the brink of the title with a 3-1 series lead. In the series opener, the Rockies fell behind, 2-0, as starter Chris Sandini surrendered a first-inning home run. But Sandini (eight hits, three runs, seven strikeouts) was able to settle down enough to make it into the sixth when the Townies loaded the bases with one out. Meanwhile the offense was led by Jacob Byrne, who drove in a run with a base hit, and Kenny Polanco, who stroked two hits. Owning a 2-0 lead in the series, Revere was blanked, 1-0, in game three by Charlestown starter Billy Sullivan and reliever John Nicklas. The Rockies managed just three hits.
