THE MALDEN ADVOCATE – Friday, June 28, 2019 Page 5 Over 400 Malden residents begin work at Encore Boston Harbor Mayor tours resort with Encore executives E ncore Boston Harbor executives gave Mayor Gary Christenson a private tour of the recently opened resort. “With over 400 Malden residents having obtained full-time jobs at Encore, I wanted to see firsthand the finished product. It truly is an amazing transformation of a once polluted site, which most thought to be undevelopable,” said Christenson. “I’m particularly pleased to see that 80% of the jobs offered to Malden residents went to minority applicants, and almost 45% to women.” Malden was the first community in the state to execute a surrounding community agreement with any casino operator. Under the Massachusetts Gaming Laws, communities could petition to be designated a surrounding community by the operator. Encore has also committed to purchasing $25,000 in gift certificates from Malden businesses annually to provide to their patrons to encourage them to support Malden businesses. Dancing through the Decades with Dance Caliente D ancing through the Decades with Dance Caliente is an interactive dance performance geared to a Senior Audience. Each dance is interspersed with an amusing and brief talk about the history of the dances along with mini-lessons.
