Levine andom thoughts in these uncertain times... I’ve lost track of the days. One bleeds painstakingly slowly into the other. Malden is living its own version of the 1993 fantasy comedy “Groundhog Day” starring Bill Murray – in real time. The occasional journey to Stop & Shop on Charles Street to stock up on water, Victoria’s Marinara Pasta Sauce and Ellio’s pizza welcomed as if I were going out to a nightclub. I don’t even mind the, at times, half-hour wait in line to get in – me in denial that I am eligible to take advantage of the early bird hours for “seniors.” The “60 and over” crowd able to cruise the aisles before all the young folks wake up. I converse with Dolly at the Customer Service desk as I play my number with complete confidence that we are both following guidelines suggested by the CDC, Dolly with a 6-inch-thick glass shield in front of her to assure this. I stop into the liquor GIANNELLI isle for fruit of the vine. As I walk up to the cashier with Ballantine Ale in hand, my friends behind the register have barricaded themselves as if they were on the frontlines of a war zone. Most people completely understand the dire straits we are presently going through. I see Dave Millikan at the self-checkout area – poor soul works in the S&S warehouse in Somerville and reports that the 15-hour nights stocking shelves and loading trucks are wearing him down. Thank you, Dave, for your hard work. Real life superhero constable on patrol Trent Headley, wearing his face mask proudly, greets you at the door with that great smile of his peeking through the face guard. The day is broken up nicely with my daily trip into an empty Parking Dept. office to catch up on things. Adhering to CDC guidelines as I go about my business, I yearn for the day when I’ll be asked 25 times a shift if we validate.
